About this app

Shared Khata is a shared expense tracker for friends, roommates and small groups. Split bills, track IOUs and see who owes who in one ledger that everyone in it can see and edit. Entries sync to every phone, and the app works offline too.

Keep a ledger with one person, or start a group of up to 6 people for a flat, a trip or your family. A simple bill splitter and expense splitter for everyday life: split expenses with friends and always know who owes you money.

No more "I already paid you" arguments. Everyone adds entries to the same ledger, and everyone sees the same balance.

How it works
1. Create a ledger with one person or a group, then share the invite link
2. Anyone in the ledger adds a bill or a payment
3. Every phone shows the same balance, until it says Settled

Split bills with a group
- Start a group of up to 6 people: roommates, a trip, family or colleagues
- Split a bill equally, by exact amounts or by percent, and pick who was part of it
- See each member's balance: who should receive and who should pay
- Settle up: record a payment in a tap, or just part of it
- Spending summary: total spent, your share, who paid and where the money went
- One invite link for the whole group. Each person picks their own name to join

Ledgers with one person
- A shared ledger with a roommate, partner, friend, sibling or colleague
- Add an entry as You Gave or You Got in a few taps
- Split a bill equally, or record the full amount

In every ledger
- Pick a category: Food, Groceries, Rent, Utilities, Transport, Shopping, Entertainment, Medicine or Other. The app remembers the ones you use
- Add a title, a date and an optional note
- See who owes who at a glance: You Will Receive or You Will Pay
- See "Settled" when you are even
- Search your ledgers by name

Everyone sees the same ledger
- Changes sync as soon as you're online, and the others see them when they open the ledger
- Get notified when someone adds, edits or deletes an entry, so nothing changes quietly
- Only the person who added an entry, or the ledger owner, can edit or delete it
- Add people by phone number, email or from your contacts, then share the invite link on WhatsApp or any app

Works offline
- Add entries with no internet, on a flight or with weak signal
- Shared Khata syncs on its own when you are back online

What does "khata" mean?
Khata means "ledger" in Urdu and Hindi. In Pakistan and India, Shared Khata is your personal khata or hisab kitab: an udhar hisab you keep with friends and family, not a tool for shops. Everywhere else, think of it as a shared IOU tracker for split bills and money owed.
