About this app

Bring responsive ambient lighting to your Android TV with ScreenGlow.

ScreenGlow is the free version of SceneGlow. It samples colours from the edges of your screen and sends matching real-time colour data to one WLED-controlled addressable LED strip installed behind your television.

The result is an immersive Ambilight-style effect for compatible films, TV, games, apps and menus—without a separate HDMI capture box.

FREE VERSION

ScreenGlow supports one WLED device and one LED strip around your television. It works locally over your network using DDP and requires no account or cloud service.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Configure a WLED controller and addressable LED strip.
2. Connect the TV device and WLED controller to the same network.
3. Enter the WLED device’s IP address in ScreenGlow.
4. Configure the LED layout and strip direction.
5. Start a session and approve Android’s screen-capture prompt.

SceneGlow adds multiple WLED devices, multiple lighting zones, Home Assistant integration, compatible room lights, and additional effects and controls.

PRIVACY

Captured frames are processed temporarily in memory on your Android TV device. ScreenGlow does not save or upload screenshots, video or screen content.

Only calculated LED colour values are sent directly to the WLED address configured on your local network.

CONTENT COMPATIBILITY

ScreenGlow uses Android’s MediaProjection system and requires your approval when a new capture session begins.

Some apps protect video using DRM or secure video surfaces. Protected content may not be available to screen-capture apps, so the LEDs may remain dark or react only to visible controls and subtitles.

Compatibility varies by device, Android version, media app and video format. Local, non-protected SDR content usually gives the most reliable results. HDR10 and Dolby Vision colours may not exactly match the final television image.

• Compatible Android TV or Google TV device
• One WLED-compatible controller on the same network
• Addressable LED strip configured in WLED
• WLED real-time input enabled

ScreenGlow is developed primarily for NVIDIA Shield TV and Shield TV Pro, but is intended to work with other compatible Android TV and Google TV devices.
