IR Remote Tester checks whether your TV, air-conditioner or set-top box remote still sends its infrared signal, and points to the likely cause when it doesn't: the remote, the batteries or the TV. Hold the remote's tip in front of the phone camera and press when asked. The app spots the invisible flash by itself, counts it and gives a verdict with a confidence level and next steps.
▶ AUTOMATIC FLASH CHECK AND VERDICT
• No staring at the screen: the app compares camera frames and counts the remote's infrared flash in each press.
• A guided test of about 15 seconds: hold a button, then tap it quickly, twice.
• Verdicts include: remote is sending · batteries or contacts suspected · remote fault likely · button contacts suspected · check the TV side · likely not an infrared remote · can't judge with this camera yet.
• Each verdict shows high, medium or low confidence and the reasons behind it, for example "Flash caught in 2 of 3 presses".
• You're asked just what the verdict still needs: new batteries? Does the TV react? Does the AC remote's display work?
• If the detector isn't sure, you check the live preview with your own eyes, and the result is labelled "Confirmed by eye".
▶ TEST EVERY BUTTON
• A button grid for your remote type: TV (14 buttons), air conditioner (7), set-top box (12), streaming remote (4).
• Tap a button, then press it on the remote 3 times: works ✓, sometimes ~ or no signal ✗.
• Buttons that fail while the rest work point to worn or dirty contacts. A cleaning guide is included.
• While a diagnosis is open, the button results update its verdict.
▶ A CAMERA CHECK YOU CAN TRUST
• Many back cameras filter infrared. The app remembers which camera has actually seen infrared and suggests the front camera.
• If a camera has never seen infrared, a missing flash is reported as "can't judge with this camera yet", never as a broken remote.
• Exposure changes and hand movement are not counted as flashes. Flicker in the room lowers the confidence.
• Signal strip per frame, beep and vibration on each flash (both switchable), adjustable detection threshold.
▶ PHONE IR BLASTER
• Shows whether this phone has a built-in IR blaster and the carrier frequencies it reports.
• On phones with a blaster: pick the TV brand (five code sets), send power, volume + or mute and tell the app whether the TV reacted. If it did, the TV's receiver works, and your answer is added to the verdict.
• No blaster found? The app explains why: many recent phones have none, and plug-in IR adapters are not reported by the phone.
▶ MORE HELP
• Battery check (type, + and −, corrosion) and a TV-side checklist.
• Compare two remotes at the same distance: a rough relative brightness, not a strength reading.
• Share a result as an image. The last 50 results are kept, each with an optional remote name.
▶ GOOD TO KNOW
• A phone camera takes a few frames per second: it sees that a flash happened, but can't tell which code was sent or how strong it is.
• Verdicts are likelihoods with a confidence level, not certainties.
• Bluetooth and radio remotes send no infrared. Many streaming remotes use infrared just for TV power and volume.
• Blaster codes may not match every model of a brand, and other brands aren't covered yet.
• Camera frames are analysed on the phone and deleted right away. Nothing is recorded or uploaded, and results stay on this phone unless you share them.
• Ads stay off the screen while the camera is checking a remote or the blaster is sending.
