About this app

Score Sketch is a sheet music maker for writing melodies, songs and piano parts on your phone, with undo that is still there tomorrow and a big staff made for fingers.

▶ UNDO EVERY STEP, EVEN AFTER REOPENING
• Every change to the score is one step you can undo and redo: notes, rests, durations, accidentals, ties, chords, key, time, tempo, transposing, lyrics and the title.
• The undo history is saved inside the score's own file, so Undo still works after you close the app and come back.
• Each score keeps up to 200 steps; very large scores keep fewer. Quick taps on the up and down buttons count as one step.
• Autosave runs within 2 seconds of your last edit, and the title bar shows Edited, Saving… or Saved. If a save fails you see it, and the app asks before you leave.
• A rhythm that can't be written where you tapped is refused with a short message, and your score stays exactly as it was.

▶ A BIG STAFF FOR YOUR FINGER
• The bar you are writing in is drawn again in an entry band at twice the page size, with five ledger lines above and below the staff.
• Touch a line or space: a ghost note and its name (for example F♯5) follow your finger, and the note is placed when you lift.
• Empty bars never shrink in the band, so there is always room for the next note.
• Prefer keys? Switch to a two-octave piano strip and swipe sideways to change octave.
• Move a note up or down a step with the arrow buttons.

▶ WRITE
• Whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes, dots, triplets, rests, sharps, flats, naturals, ties and chords.
• A note that runs past the barline is split and tied into the next bar for you. Beams and accidentals are set automatically.
• Treble staff, bass staff or piano grand staff.
• 15 key signatures, 10 time signatures and a tempo from 30 to 240 BPM. Key and time can change at any bar.
• Transpose the whole score up or down by an interval, or by semitones.
• One verse of lyrics under the top staff, plus title and composer.
• Note names as letters, solfège or German (H).

▶ LISTEN
• Play from the bar you are on; the cursor follows the music.
• Hear each note as you place it (you can switch this off).

▶ EXPORT AND SHARE
• MusicXML (.musicxml) to carry on in a notation program on your computer.
• MIDI (.mid) with the notes, tempo, time and key.
• PNG pages at 1240 × 1754 px, with title, composer and tempo on the first page and no watermark.
• Every file is read back and checked before the app reports it as written, then you share it wherever you like.
• Back up your whole library, including each score's undo history, to one file and restore it later.

▶ GOOD TO KNOW
• Score Sketch is made for melodies, songs and piano parts: one voice per staff, treble and bass clefs, one verse of lyrics.
• Exports are MusicXML, MIDI and PNG pages.
• Notes are entered by touch, on the staff band or the piano strip.
• Playback uses a piano-style tone synthesized by the app, and it stops after 10 minutes of audio.
• Exported files stay in the app's export folder for about a day. Share them to keep a copy.
• The app asks for no permissions.
• Ads appear on the Manuscripts screen and sometimes after you finish an export, never while you write or listen.

What’s new

Fixed a crash: deleting a note with the trash-can “Delete” button in the editor could close Score Sketch, for example when you removed the only note left in the last bar after the bars before it had been emptied. Now the note is simply removed and you can keep writing.
