About this app
Geode identifies rocks, minerals and crystals from a photo — and it is honest about how that works.
A mineral cannot be settled from a picture alone. Hardness, streak and specific gravity are measured in the hand. So Geode does not announce one answer with an invented confidence score. You photograph the stone, the app ranks the most likely matches by the features the photo actually shows, tells you why each one is on the list, and leaves the final call to you.
IDENTIFY FROM A PHOTO
• Shoot with the in-app camera, or pick a photo you already have.
• See the most likely candidates, ordered by how closely the visible features match. No percentages anywhere.
• "Why this one?" shows what was read from your photo: colour, texture, luster and form.
• When candidates look nearly identical in a photograph, the app says so instead of pretending to be sure.
• No match? You get shooting tips and a manual search by name, chemical formula or locality.
A 254-MINERAL REFERENCE
• Every entry carries its identity: chemical formula, Mohs hardness, crystal system, luster, streak, specific gravity, transparency, where it is found and how it forms.
• Browse by class, colour and hardness, or through Quartzes, Gemstones, Volcanic, Sedimentary, Metallic and Fossils.
• Birthstone lists, with their source named (Jewelers of America).
• Meaning tab: chakra, zodiac, intent and care traditions, recorded as cultural history and labelled as such.
• Value tab: how easily a mineral is found, on a four-step scale, and what actually moves a stone's price. This is not a valuation.
• Identities follow Mindat and the USGS Mineral Resources Program. Specimen photographs come from Wikimedia Commons, each credited inside the app.
YOUR COLLECTION
• A Collection tab of its own: log a find with your photos, a note, the locality, the date, its size and your own tags.
• Add the same mineral as many times as you like — every specimen is its own entry.
• Record what you paid, in TRY, USD, EUR or GBP. The home screen totals it per currency and says plainly that stones without a price are not counted. It is what you spent, never a made-up estimate.
• Search names, notes, localities and tags; filter by class, colour, hardness and locality.
• Export the whole collection as a CSV file.
• The reference and your collection live on your device and work offline. Identifying a new photo needs a connection.
FREE AND PREMIUM
Free: one photo identification. Everything else keeps working after that — the 254-mineral reference and all its tabs, your collection, adding stones by hand, notes, photos, tags, filters and CSV export.
Geode Premium is for people who identify often: up to 20 photo identifications a day, each with its ranked matches, what the photo shows, and a one-tap save to your collection. New subscribers can try it free for 3 days.
PRIVACY
Your collection and photos stay on your device. To read a photo, only that photo is sent to Geode's server and read by a third-party AI service (OpenAI); the photo is not stored, and location and other metadata are removed first.
Geode lays out the possibilities and shows its reasoning. The last step — deciding what the stone actually is — stays yours.
SUBSCRIPTION
Geode Premium is available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, billed through your Google Play account. New subscribers can try it free for 3 days. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it any time in Google Play › Payments & subscriptions.
