About this app

Notaphil is a notebook for paper money. Photograph a note, work out what condition it is really in, and keep a proper record of what you own.

HOW IDENTIFICATION WORKS
Point the camera at a note, or pick a photo you already have. The photo is read on our servers and compared against Notaphil's reference catalog. What comes back is a short list of the closest matches, ordered by similarity.

There are no percentages and no confidence scores. You look at the candidates and confirm the match yourself. When two emissions of the same series come back together, Notaphil says so and points you at the serial number and the signatures.

The reference catalog in this version holds 16 historic notes from 15 issuing countries, among them the 1923 German Reichsbahn emergency note, the 1931 Bank of England white fiver, Turkey's 1927 first issue and Australia's first decimal dollar. A note outside the catalog comes back without a match.

GRADING, IN SIX QUESTIONS
Condition sets most of the value of a note, so Notaphil asks about it properly. Six questions covering folds, tears, staining, pinholes, corner wear and writing or stamps, each answered None, Light or Pronounced. Together they place the note on the standard nine-step scale from Poor to Uncirculated. Your answers are stored with the record, so when you re-grade the note later they come back already filled in.

The grade is an estimate you arrive at yourself. It is not an appraisal.

WHAT CONDITION IS WORTH
Notaphil does not quote prices it cannot stand behind. Instead it shows the ratio: how many times more the same note would be worth in mint condition than in the condition you just graded. Any amount in your record is one you typed in yourself.

YOUR COLLECTION
- Each record keeps its photograph, its grade and the six answers behind that grade
- Your own purchase price and your own valuation, in Turkish lira, US dollars or euros
- A free-text note on every record
- Collection totals: notes held, countries represented, your highest grade, and the total you recorded
- Search the catalog by hand, by country, year, denomination or the name printed on the note
- Export the whole collection to CSV
- Remove every record, photograph and grade from the device in one step

Free: one photo identification. Everything else is free and not metered: your collection, grading and re-grading, catalog search, CSV export and the reference pages. If a photograph cannot be read, or the note has no match in the catalog, that attempt is not counted.
Notaphil Premium: up to 20 photo identifications a day. New subscribers can try it free for 3 days.

BEFORE YOU START
Identification needs an internet connection: the photo is read on our server by a third-party AI service (OpenAI) and is not stored. Your collection is stored on your device and stays readable offline. English and Turkish.

Notaphil Premium is available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, billed through your Google Play account. New subscribers can try it free for 3 days.
