MatrixMedia brings chat, calls, and live broadcasts together in one open-source app — built on the Matrix protocol so you can reach anyone on the open Matrix network, not just other MatrixMedia users.
KEY FEATURES
• Encrypted by default
Direct messages, group rooms, voice and video calls, and live broadcasts are all end-to-end encrypted. Your conversations belong to you and the people you choose to share them with — no one else.
• Voice and video calls
1:1 and group calls with crisp audio and low-latency video. Incoming calls ring through the system with native lock-screen UI; start a call from any room or directly from search.
• Live broadcasts
Stream live to a room from your camera or via screen share. Viewers join through a built-in player with a live comments overlay. Recorded broadcasts replay as inline timeline bubbles afterward, so a moment
shared lives on for people who missed it.
• Chat that keeps up
Send text, images, and files. Reply in threads. Long-press messages for quick actions. Background notifications wake the app to decrypt and display new messages in real time, without leaking content to anyone
in between.
• People search
Find other users on your homeserver from the people picker. Chat across servers — federation is built in.
• Liquid Glass design
Dark-themed aesthetic with translucent surfaces, specular edges, and a coherent visual language across every screen. Built on Material 3 underneath.
OPEN BY DESIGN
MatrixMedia is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. It works with any Matrix homeserver, not only the one we host. Run your own server, use a friend's server, or stick with the default — the choice is
yours and you can switch without losing your account on the other side.
The Matrix protocol means you can message and call people who use other Matrix clients too — Element, FluffyChat, Cinny, SchildiChat, and more. Federation makes the network bigger than any single app.
PRIVACY
• No analytics SDKs. No advertising SDKs. No third-party trackers.
• Messages, media, and call audio/video are end-to-end encrypted between participating devices. Our servers see only encrypted blobs and the metadata they need to route events.
• We do not require an email address or phone number to sign up — just a username and a password you choose.
• Push notifications carry only an opaque event identifier; the message content is decrypted on your device.

WHAT MATRIXMEDIA IS NOT
It is not a closed silo. It is not an ad-supported feed. It is not a place where your conversations train a model or get sold to a data broker. The federated, open-protocol design and the open-source codebase
are the proof — not just the promise.
