HOW IT WORKS
Pick the occasion. Say who you are, who they are, and two to five things that
actually happened — a memory, a quirk, an inside joke. Choose heartfelt, funny,
balanced or formal, and pick a length. Watch the speech write itself.

Every story you give it appears in the speech. There is no "Webster's dictionary
defines marriage as" — that opening and its relatives are banned in the writing
rules. What comes out sounds like this: "Dave told me marriage is about compromise.
Then he spent forty minutes explaining why the thermostat is not a democracy." It
sounds like that because that is the kind of detail you gave it.

THINGS TO LEAVE OUT
There is a box for what must never be mentioned — the ex, the bachelor party, the job
he lost. The speech is written around it, synonyms included.
