The app suddenly plays YouTube videos with sound (content, not ads). Can't turn the sound off. Can't stop the video either, because there is an overlay menu that won't go away, which also means you can't actually see the video. App support shoots themselves in the foot with an inane email setup: They route incoming emails through a third party, which forwards them in a way that breaks the SPF record, so the emails are automatically declined. Then they respond by saying I should email them! Fail

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We have passed this information back to our team, but would like to know if you are experiencing video playback as part of content in articles or from ads. You can contact us directly at mobile-feedback@thestar.ca

*Update*. Despite deselecting deselecting sports, beauty, etc. these stories still appear in "latest news". Today there were football and baseball stories. "Fluff" is not news. l like the content and the quality of the reporting and writing. I really wish there was a way to customize the feed so that I don't have to scroll past sports and entertainment when I want NEWS.

You can customize your feed by switching to the 'Latest News' tab on the homepage. Look for the 'Customize' settings to prioritize Toronto, Canada, and World News, and mute Sports/Entertainment. This will give you the focused feed you want!

Fails to save your article and position when the app is backgrounded. The result is that your article often vanishes if you switch away from the app, especially for any amount of time. Coming back, you're greeted by a loading icon and a fresh list of front page articles. This is basic functionality for an article reading app. Appalling.
