About this app

Captern is a subtitle maker, SRT included: add subtitles to videos right on your phone. Pick a clip, and speech recognition on your device writes auto captions with the timing of every word. Fix a word, pick a style and save a new video with the captions burned in, plus an .srt file.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Pick a video with Android's photo picker. Captern never asks for access to your gallery.
2. Choose the spoken language or let the app detect it. 76 spoken languages are supported.
3. Your phone listens and writes the captions. The screen stays on and you can see how long is left.
4. Edit, style and save.

YOUR VIDEO STAYS ON YOUR PHONE
Captions are made on the device and your video is never uploaded. The Fast model (about 190 MB) downloads once, the first time you use it. After that, these are offline captions: no internet needed.

FIX WORDS, KEEP THE TIMING
Tap any line and correct a word or a name. The timing of the other words stays where it was.

STYLES AND WORDS ON SCREEN
9 caption styles (6 free) with adjustable text size. Show 1, 2, 3 or 5 words at a time, or a full line. Use one or two lines, highlight the word being spoken, or turn on ALL CAPS.

FITS EVERY FORMAT
Keep the original frame or choose 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9. Your whole video stays in the frame and empty space is filled with black. Place captions at the top, middle or bottom, then fine-tune their height with a slider.

SAVE THE VIDEO AND THE SRT
The new video goes to your gallery (Movies/Captern) and the original is never changed. Saving in 720p or 1080p costs nothing and adds no watermark. The .srt subtitle file is always included at no cost, and you can save the .srt alone to use in another editor or player.

Every project is saved on your phone as you work, so you can come back to it later.

FREE AND PRO
Free: videos up to 3 minutes (a longer video can use its first 3 minutes), the Fast model, 6 styles, 720p and 1080p, and .srt files. Captern Pro (yearly with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, monthly, or one lifetime payment) adds videos up to 60 minutes long, the Accurate model (about 539 MB) for harder audio, all 9 styles, 4K export when the source video is 4K, and no ads. WHERE ADS APPEAR
The free version shows a banner on the home and Settings screens. A full-screen ad may appear after a video is saved, never in your first session. Nothing appears while captions are made, while you edit or while you save.

PERMISSIONS
Internet for the one-time model download, ads, purchases, crash reports and a small settings file from tinyfair.my.id. Notifications only if you start the free trial (one reminder 2 days before it ends) and start at boot so that reminder survives a restart, plus the advertising ID, network and billing permissions of Google's ad and purchase libraries. No camera, microphone, location or media permission.
