About this app
Tonewash is a phone speaker cleaner for the moment your phone gets wet. It plays a low tone with vibration so water drops in the speaker grille shake loose, then measures the sound before and after with the microphone, so you see the result in numbers instead of a progress bar.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Unplug earbuds, wipe the phone dry and hold the speaker facing down.
2. Optional: tap "Measure before you start". Three short test tones (500 Hz, 1 kHz and 3 kHz) give you a before number.
3. Tap Start. For 60 seconds the tone sweeps from 140 to 300 Hz and holds at 165 Hz, with vibration.
4. Measure again and see before and after side by side.
AN HONEST RESULT
• Clearer: the speaker plays at least 3 dB louder than before, measured the same way.
• No change measured: drops can take more than one cycle. Run it again, up to 3 cycles in a row.
• Quieter: stop and let the phone dry.
The numbers are relative levels from your phone's microphone, not a lab measurement, and the ring shows the seconds left, not a made-up percentage.
WATER EJECT FOR BOTH SPEAKERS
• Bottom speaker or earpiece (the speaker you hold to your ear), so it works as an earpiece cleaner too
• Tone + vibrate, tone only or vibrate only
• Volume goes to maximum only when you tap "Set to max", and your old volume comes back after the cycle
• Start turns off while earbuds are connected, because the tone is loud
SPEAKER TEST AND STEREO TEST
• Play a 1 kHz tone on the left, the right or both sides
• Test the earpiece on its own
• A sweep from 100 Hz to 10 kHz to hear buzzing or rattling
• Type any manual tone from 100 to 500 Hz, with vibration and 30, 60 or 90 seconds
WHEN IT CAN'T HELP
Tonewash can help remove water from speaker grilles after rain, a splash or washing your hands. It can't remove dust or lint (use a soft, dry brush), dry a phone that was under water for a long time, or help a speaker that already crackled before it got wet. Don't charge the phone while the port is wet.

No account. The microphone is used for about 4 seconds, only after you tap Measure. Nothing is recorded or uploaded; only the three numbers are kept on your phone.
