The rules are way more complicated than the original Card Crawl or Card Thief (which, I love both) - but there's tons of fun combos and interactions that let you pull some pretty wild stuff. Plus the whole thing has this weird sort of meta-narrative where you're a brave adventurer delving dungeons and fighting monsters, except all that's happening in a card game you're playing against the bosses as you drink them under the table and skip out on the tab.

Arnold Rauers is a very talented and creative guy. I love his games too death, but my favorite is Card Thief. This game's mechanics are similar is many ways to the aforementioned, but much more confusing in their presentation. I don't mind complexity and maybe I am missing something, but I am unable to feel the same level of tactical control I do with his other games.

I REALLY wanted to give Card Crawl Adventure five stars, but I can not. The original Card Crawl was what I would call a perfect game. Lots of options on playing. Wonderful variety of weapons, defense, potions, and enemies. I've played it EVERY day since I downloaded it years ago. What got lost in making Card Crawl Adventure (in my opinion) is this game is too complex and convoluted. I could play the original Card Crawl for hours, but not so with Card Crawl Adventure.
