"We list the days of the week starting from Sunday, one at a time. What number is Wednesday?"
The answer is 4.

That is the whole game: count through something that has an order. It asks whether you can say what you already know as a position, not just as a fact.

■ One mistake ends the run
In Endless, a single wrong answer stops you there. The clock gets shorter the further you go. How far can you keep going?

■ The questions do not run out
Questions are built on your phone from ordered subjects and the ways of ordering them, so you meet new ones every time you play. Hand-written questions are mixed in as well, and those keep growing without an app update.

■ Five ways to play
- Endless — no end until you get one wrong
- Today's 10 — everyone gets the same ten. A new set each day
- Qualifier 10 — a mistake does not stop you; finish all ten
- Memory — no knowledge needed. Keep track of where you are and what you said
- Training — pick a kind of question and drill it

■ Make your own questions
Write down an order you want to learn and the app turns it into questions. The US presidents, the periodic table, your team's squad numbers — anything with a sequence. It doubles as a way to memorise them.
