About this app

Unexpected Music is a collection of unique and inspiring tools for anyone interested in making music, from the complete beginner to the seasoned musician. It includes:

• An advanced, no-nonsense, and fully customisable ear and musical trainer, which doubles as a random music generator [pro].
• A live-audio analysis tool, which allows you to "see" the notes being played around you – it's like instantly having perfect pitch! Great to train your voice or to play a song by ear [pro].
• A scale explorer with countless categories and a unique graphical display of the scales according to their similarities.
• A vast collection of chord progressions and a special interface to play them.
• A musical sketchbook, to quickly record and develop musical ideas on the go.
• An advanced multi-instrument tuner, which can itself be tuned, and contains alternative tunings for guitar and banjo.
• An intuitive transposition function, based on Shepard tones.
• Great-sounding instruments.
• Support for MIDI input and output [pro].
• And, last but not least, the good ‘ol faithful but unforgiving metronome.

These tools are all held together by Unexpected Music's heart – the wheel. This innovative and always accessible user interface:

• Is an expressive instrument which can be played very easily.
• Can be freely rotated – so you can intuitively play a melody regardless of the key and then transpose it effortlessly.
• Lets you select or exclude notes with a swipe and thus quickly explore and discover scales.
• Allows you to clearly see the relationships between chords and thus improve your understanding of music theory.
• And so much more...

Let Unexpected Music inspire you to create the unexpected!

Please note that some functions are included only with the pro version of Unexpected Music. The pro version includes the musical trainer, the audio analysis tool, MIDI input and output and all instrument sounds. All other functions, as well as the upright piano and classical guitar, are freely and permanently available. The pro version can be tested for free for seven days with no obligation whatsoever.
