The Steam Chat app includes many key features of the desktop Steam client chat, including:
Friends List – See who’s in game or online at a glance. You'll see your custom categories and favorites bar just like you can on your PC.
Rich Chat – Your chats get even better with higher fidelity links, videos, tweets, GIFs, Giphy, Steam emoticons, and more.
Invite Links – Add new friends on Steam with a link. Generate an invite link you can text or email.
Customizable Notifications – Mobile notifications mean you'll never miss a message or game invite. You can customize your notifications per friend, group chat, and chat channel.
Group Chats - Get everyone on the same page. Groups make it easier to do things like stay in touch with your communities and organize game night with your best friends.

Ratings and reviews

App genuinely is broken. Weather you are scrolling past a pic, sending a pic, or trying to send a simple text, this "new", separate app from the original, is broken. If you're scrolling past a picture that's at the bottom of your feed, you WILL have an error, the app will auto close/minimize, and you'll have to reopen it. This happens REPEATEDLY without fail. For some ungodly reason, two of my friends are able to send pictures just fine. Me? No. I have a file error for png, AND Jpeg file types.

Now it just doesn't work at all. Every conversation you click on results in a crash to the OS. 2 years later. The app half functions. if you minimize the app to use another you MUST close it first otherwise it won't load. Just constant black screen. it's an absolute headache. it'll never get better.

I'm sure the reason for separating the chat from the rest of the app was because there was a cheap template that they couldn't easily implement into the full steam app, but it's stupid more and more apps continue to split the two. It also fails to connect to steam sometimes. You'll have to spam the connect button multiple times before you even get in. I just don't understand why this was made?
