About this app

This app was developed by LivaNova and Verily Life Sciences (LLC).
Note: Only UNCOVER Study participants will be able to access this app.

Thank you for your interest in participating in the UNCOVER Study. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide. While a growing national dialogue around mental health means awareness of mood disorders is higher than ever, there’s still much we don’t know about the science of depression. To help LivaNova and Verily researchers better understand mental health — through rigorous, real-world measurement — the UNCOVER Study is exploring how smartphone data could uncover more objective markers of depression.

IMPORTANT: This app is only available for use by active participants in the UNCOVER study, which is sponsored by LivaNova.

How will the study collect data?
The study aims to gather real-world data in a simple and scalable way that blends seamlessly into daily life. Smartphones measure rich behavioral and environmental information that can indicate changes in depression. The Mood App collects information — including location, physical activity, app usage & other routine phone activity — using the smartphone’s built-in sensors. It also asks questions about your mental health and sleep and prompts you to provide answers.

What data is collected?
During the study onboarding, you will be prompted to give this application certain permissions in order to collect data and you can update these permission preferences at any time. Please review the informed consent form for a comprehensive list of data collected in the study. The information collected in this study will not be used to diagnose medical conditions or make treatment decisions.

Where is my data stored?
Verily will keep all collected information encrypted on secure systems with multiple layers of protection.

Who will be able to see my identity, and will this be linked to all of my data?
A randomly-generated participant identification code will be used when collecting study data in order to de-link your identity from your personal data. This study requires you to answer surveys and share a voice diary periodically, therefore, please refrain from sharing your personal identification information through these tasks.
