PocketCHIRP CHIRP Engine provides the CHIRP radio drivers and runtime used by PocketCHIRP 2.0 and later.
IMPORTANT:
This is a required companion component for PocketCHIRP. It is not the main radio programming app.

WHAT DOES THE CHIRP ENGINE DO?
The CHIRP Engine runs in the background when PocketCHIRP needs to communicate with a radio. It provides the CHIRP runtime and radio drivers that allow PocketCHIRP to understand and program supported radio models.
It provides:
• CHIRP radio driver runtime
• Radio drivers used by PocketCHIRP
• Communication between PocketCHIRP and supported radio drivers
• Support for USB and Bluetooth radio programming through PocketCHIRP
• A separately maintained CHIRP runtime for PocketCHIRP 2.x and later
NO SETUP REQUIRED
You do not program radios directly from the CHIRP Engine.
Radio selection, channel memories, frequencies, tones, settings, USB and Bluetooth connections, backups, imports, exports, and radio programming are all handled through the main PocketCHIRP app.
Once the Engine is installed, simply return to PocketCHIRP and use the app normally.
WHY IS THE ENGINE A SEPARATE APP?
PocketCHIRP 2.x separates the Android user interface from the CHIRP radio programming runtime.
The PocketCHIRP CHIRP Engine contains the open-source CHIRP components and radio drivers, while the main PocketCHIRP application provides the Android interface, radio editor, backup tools, connection handling, and other PocketCHIRP features.
Keeping these components separate provides a clear boundary between PocketCHIRP and the open-source CHIRP software it uses while allowing the radio driver engine to be maintained independently.
REQUIRED FOR POCKETCHIRP
If PocketCHIRP tells you that the CHIRP Engine is missing, install this app and then reopen PocketCHIRP.
The PocketCHIRP CHIRP Engine is intended to remain installed alongside PocketCHIRP.
