888 is about spending drops, not only about picking colours.
Each round shows a target shade and gives you a dose budget. The counter between the two patches tells you how many drops you still hold. Tapping a pipette spends one and tints your flask a little further. Reaching the target shade is half the job; reaching it before you run dry is the other half.
Pour on the right shade and you score. Pour on the wrong one and a try is gone. One drop past the budget spills the flask, which costs a try as well, so the final dose is the one worth thinking about.
The budget is never unfair. It always holds the exact recipe behind the target, with a little slack on the early levels. Clearing the flask is free of charge but does not hand the spent doses back, which makes a reset a decision rather than a way out.
As the levels climb the slack disappears, the recipes run longer and a fourth dye joins the row, until you have exactly as many drops as the target needs and not one more.
