Oatmeal wool, rust and sage yarn, plum felt, and a cream running stitch around every button.
Purlwick Knots is an untangling puzzle made of craft materials. Each knot is a handful of felt buttons joined by strands of yarn, dropped in a heap. Drag the buttons around the board until no two threads cross, and the heap settles into a tidy little pattern.
— The look
The threads are drawn as real yarn: thick, rounded, plied, with loose fibres escaping along their length. Backgrounds are knitted stitch by stitch. Buttons are felt, with a stitched ring and a cross of thread through the holes, and they squash a little when you pick one up and bounce when you set it down.
Where two threads cross, the yarn thickens and a small cream knot marked with an X sits on the crossing, so a tangle reads by shape as well as colour. When a crossing comes loose, a puff of lint drifts off it.
— The ribbed thread
Some strands are elastic: ribbed yarn with a small length gauge at its middle. Pull a button too far and the ribbing gives up, the button springs back to its last good spot, and the board gives a short shiver. A faint outline shows where a dragged button will land, so you can keep a layout compact before it snaps.
— Stars, hints and undo
One star for untangling a knot, a second for finishing within par, a third for doing that without a single snap. Three-star finishes earn hints; a hint lifts one button onto its place in the finished pattern. Undo steps back one move at a time.
— What is inside
• Five baskets of twelve knots each, from six buttons up to twenty-two, opened with the stars you gather
• A daily knot, built fresh each calendar day
• A finished-knit card after every knot, where the solved layout redraws itself thread by thread
• A stitch sampler: garter, stockinette, seed, cable and basketweave swatches that knit a row for every knot you solve in the matching basket
• Sound, haptics and a reduce-motion switch that stills the drifting fibres and the board shiver
There is no account to make, and nothing about your play is tracked.
