About this app

Experience the AR-Serious Game about Jewish life in Freiburg city centre.

"See the city with new eyes" is the motto of the "FreiBuddy" app from the Documentation Centre for National Socialism (DZNS) of the Freiburg Municipal Museums. Three interactive augmented reality (AR) routes offer a variety of insights into the past and present of Jewish life in Freiburg.

On the fictitious platform FreiBuddy, players meet fictitious guests as "buddies". The players have the task of creating a good encounter through dialogues and small tasks. In doing so, they learn more about the lives of Jews in Freiburg in a playful and interest-led way.

The app can only be used on site in Freiburg city centre. One route takes about 1.5 hours. We recommend downloading the app and the content before using it. This reduces data consumption while travelling.

No specific prior knowledge is required. A glossary explains important terms. Large parts of the dialogues are set to music (in the German-language version).
The app is not barrier-free.

We recommend using it as a group, dividing it up into the various routes and then discussing them. The educational handout from the DZNS can enrich its use.

Note: An access code is required to use the app. Please contact the DZNS Freiburg dzns@stadt.freiburg.de by email to request a free access code and to receive further information on how to use the app.

The app is the result of a participatory project funded by the Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility, Future" and the Baden-Württemberg State Centre for Political Education.

We recommend use from the age of 14.

Further information can be found at nsdoku.freiburg.de. If you have any questions, please contact dzns@stadt.freiburg.de.
