About this app

Prepay duties on U.S. imports. Snap a photo, AI auto-fills customs details (or enter your own), pay in your currency, and get a QR code/Declaration ID for U.S. shipping.

Easily calculate and prepay U.S. duties with Zonos Prepay. Just snap a picture of the items you’re shipping, and our AI fills in the customs details for you, including calculating duty cost. Review/edit the information, pay instantly in your own currency, and ship with confidence. Prefer to enter your item information manually? That’s supported too (no photo required).

Currently compatible with Canada Post, USPS (U.S. territories), Cyprus Post, and QazPost (Prepay guide: https://zonos.com/docs/postal/tools-for-shippers/zonos-prepay), with more countries coming soon.

Why Zonos Prepay:
- Free account (no subscription costs).
- Prepay duties when required to continue shipping postal to the U.S.
- Save time with auto-filled customs declarations based on a quick photo (or manually enter the item information yourself, if preferred)
- Get accurate, guaranteed duty and tax totals with HTS codes. Neither you nor your recipient will have to pay additional duties, even if customs re-assess your shipment.
- Pay as you go: Pay a clearance/processing fee per shipment, along with the duty cost
- Get a QR code & Declaration ID for smooth shipping.
- 18 languages, local currencies and payment methods.

How It Works:
1. Create a free account.
2. Select the post you are shipping with (currently supports Canada Post).
3. Click “Add items manually” to enter your item information yourself, or click “Take a picture” to take a photo and have the app auto-populate your item information. You can include all items in one photo, or take multiple photos. Note: Only include items that are shipping within the same box. If you are shipping multiple boxes, only enter and pay for one box at a time, so you get a Declaration ID for each box.
4. Review/edit the item information, then click “Calculate duties” to get the duty costs and associated processing/clearance fees for your shipment.
5. Pay in your own currency. Payment covers both duties and the clearance/processing fee.
6. Present your QR code/Declaration ID at drop-off to confirm duties are prepaid.

If you have questions, please contact our support team at support@zonos.com.

Who It’s For:
Individuals and small businesses shipping to the United States, plus postal operators needing a compliant prepayment solution.

Compliance Note:
U.S. regulations require prepaid duties for postal shipments under $800 USD (effective Aug 29, 2025). Zonos Prepay ensures compliance and eliminates delays. Supports Canada Post, USPS (U.S. territories), Cyprus Post, and QazPost, with more countries coming soon.

I don't know why on earth an entirely separate app + account was needed to ship packagws from Canada to America, unless the intent was to deter people from shipping things across the border. If that's the case, this app works perfectly as intended. The AI image scan cracks me up, it can't decide whether origami should cost $2 or $10. Dude, it's an orange post-it in a cute shape.

We hear your frustration and are working to integrate more with posts. The AI scan aims to save you time vs. writing everything manually, but you can always edit or skip it. When the US eliminated de minimis with 30 days' notice, we built Prepay so those relying on postal services could continue to ship to the US while meeting the new regulations.

This whole thing seems wrong just to send a parcel. It is very difficult to use. The valuations are way off. I have had to redo it all 2 times from the app freezing. I now want to move to items destination country after using this app.

Hi Chris, I apologize for the inconvenience. I'd like to help, if possible. By "valuations", are you referring to the duty calculation? Or the item value (which can be auto-filled when you add the item using a photo)? If the latter, you can edit the item value (or skip the photo and enter all item info manually from the start).

Had an awful experience with this app today at the post office. Ended up taking an hour to get working which made me late for work. Never before has such a poorly designed app made me break down in a public setting like this before- But zonos prepay somehow managed to do just that. Firstly, i cannot create an account the app requires, because everytime i left the app to check my email the app crashes. response to developer about the ai feature: if it dont work, remove it. it wastes ppls time.

Hi Toast, I sincerely apologize for your experience. We are working to improve the app and appreciate your feedback. Edit: Many people use the AI feature to help them quickly complete the process. Keeping it as an option saves them time without forcing anyone to waste time (you can click "Add items manually" instead of "Add by photo" to skip it.)
