About this app

OpenBlitzer shows fixed speed cameras, red light cameras and section control, and warns you about mobile speed checks, traffic jams and hazards reported by other drivers. No ads, no account, no tracking. Open source.

IMPORTANT FOR DRIVERS
In Germany, drivers must not use a speed camera warner while driving (§ 23 (1c) StVO), and other countries have similar rules. OpenBlitzer is meant for passengers and for planning a route.

FIXED CAMERAS
• Fixed speed cameras, red light cameras and section control from OpenStreetMap, across Europe
• All fixed cameras are stored on the device and warn without a connection
• Updated weekly

LIVE COMMUNITY REPORTS
• Mobile speed camera, traffic jam end, accident, roadworks, hazard on the road, road closure, poor visibility and new fixed camera
• Report with two taps at most, with large buttons
• After you pass a report the app asks "Still there?": Yes extends it, No helps remove it

WARNINGS THAT MATTER
• Only for cameras ahead of you and in your driving direction, no false alarms from the opposite carriageway
• Look-ahead based on speed, from 300 m in town to 1,200 m on the motorway, plus a second alert shortly before the camera
• Full-width banner with type, distance and speed limit, chime, spoken announcement in English or German, and vibration
• Speedometer with GPS speed and an overspeed alarm with adjustable tolerance

IN THE BACKGROUND
• Keeps warning with the screen off or with your navigation app in front
• Music and navigation get quieter for the announcement

ALSO
• HUD mode: mirrored, high-contrast view for the windshield
• Demo drive to try it without driving
• Light and dark map, English and German, km/h and mph

PRIVACY
No account, no ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs. The app computes warnings on your device. To load live reports it sends your approximate position to our server in Germany, which does not store it. Reports and votes are stored anonymously with a random install ID that the server only knows as a hash, and deleted at most 30 days after they expire.

OPEN SOURCE
App and server are MIT licensed on GitHub. Check what the app sends, contribute or run the server yourself: github.com/codextde/openblitzer
