About this app

Furdy psst is the noise level indicator feature of the full version of Furdy. It can be used on smartphones and tablets. The thresholds for each state (green, yellow, and red) can be easily adjusted to adapt the function to the ambient noise level. Free and ad-free.

--------------------------------------------------- Furdy was developed in collaboration with a day care center for people with autism spectrum disorder. The original goal was to improve the quality of communication between caregivers and clients. Furdy is the digital version of traditional assistive devices. It includes all METACOM symbols, a daily planner, speech-generating device, timer, activity schedules, noise level indicator, and much more. With the increasing number of integrated functions, the number of possible applications has also grown. Furdy can be used in institutions, workshops, schools, retirement/nursing homes, day care centers, and similar settings, as well as for private use.

The full version includes all functions, including approximately 8,000 Metacom symbols, which can be used as an alternative to photos to create maps. Each card is assigned an instruction in text form or as recorded speech. These cards are used, among other things, to break down complex tasks into individual, easy-to-understand steps. These steps are then combined into a work plan. Work plan 'cooking': "Fill 2 liters of water into the pot," "Place the pot on the stove," "Add a pinch of salt to the water," etc. For each step, the user sees the corresponding image and hears the corresponding speech output.

Daily plan function: As with a classic daily planner, all activities scheduled for the day are compiled into a plan and completed throughout the day.

Talker function: Works like a standard talker, with the option to create custom boards using Metacom symbols and personal photos. Each symbol is assigned an instruction in text or speech form, which is played back when clicked.

Timer function: A visual timer that uses color to indicate the remaining time.

Traffic Light Function: A digital noise level indicator that measures the ambient noise level and displays it visually in the form of a traffic light (green, yellow, red).

In addition to the digital tools, there are other functions primarily designed for entertainment, but also intended to promote user skills.

A drum function trains rhythm, sense of timing, motor skills, and combinatorics.

A speech computer function allows users to compose and save their own texts, which can also be played back as text-to-speech (TTS) speech output. Reading, writing, and the phonetics of individual words and letters are taught to users.

A drawing tablet function allows users to draw and save creative images.

The voice recorder function allows users to record and play back spoken words.

The clicker function requires users to tap multiple buttons as quickly as possible.

A quiz function introduces users to symbols and their meanings, helping them to memorize them. In addition, a mood barometer is integrated, allowing users to make their current mood visible to others.

------------------- FURDY was developed through a collaboration between the "Barrier-Free Systems" program at Frankfurt University and the Lower Franconia Day Care Center for People with Autism (TAU). Through continuous contact and close consultation with the center's staff and regular testing phases, the application was adapted to the needs of both the staff and, of course, the clients as much as possible.
