About this app

FURDY – Communication, Structure, and Support in Everyday Life

FURDY is an assistive and communication software for Android tablets and smartphones.

The application supports people with limited or no spoken language, as well as those with support needs, in communication, orientation, structuring their day, and independently carrying out tasks.

FURDY was developed in collaboration with a day care center as part of the Master's program "Accessible Systems" at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and has been continuously improved with a practical focus.

KEY FEATURES

• Speech-to-Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
Individualized communication boards with METACOM symbols, custom images, text, and speech output. Cards can be output via text-to-speech or custom voice recording.

• Quick Communication
Up to eight particularly important communication cards are readily available via a quick access bar.

• Task Planner
Complex tasks can be broken down into understandable individual steps and presented visually and audibly.

• Daily Planner
Daily routines can be structured with images and symbols and completed step by step. Even last-minute changes can be accommodated.

• First-Then
Two consecutive activities can be easily displayed as "First-Then."

• Visual Timer
Shows the remaining time.

• Noise Level Indicator
Clearly displays the ambient noise level in green, yellow, and red.

ACCESSIBILITY

FURDY features an integrated scanning system for operation with external input devices, such as buttons or a keyboard. This allows suitable areas of the application to be used even without direct touch input.

FURDY HUB

FURDY can optionally be connected to the FURDY Hub.

The Hub is particularly helpful for institutions in centrally managing multiple FURDY devices. Depending on the function, devices, users, settings, quick communication, content, and software versions can be managed and synchronized.

Connection to the Hub is optional. FURDY's core local functions can still be used without the Hub and without a permanent internet connection.

FURDY EXCHANGE

FURDY Exchange allows users to search for, share, and rate compatible FURDY content.

Import is not automatic but only occurs after the user actively selects it.

MEDICAL DEVICE

FURDY is a Class I medical device according to Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR) and bears the CE marking.


FURDY is listed in the German National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds' (GKV-Spitzenverband) directory of assistive devices under item number 16.99.05.3005.

The software supports communication, orientation, and participation in everyday life. It is not intended for the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, or monitoring of diseases.
