The Tutanota email app asks for very few permissions to keep your level of privacy to a maximum:

- Full network access: Used to send and receive emails.
- Receive data from the internet: To notify you when you receive a new mail.
- View network connections: To find out if an internet connection exists.
- Read your contacts: This enables you to select recipients from your phone's contacts.
- Read from SD card: To allow adding of attachments from the SD card to emails.
- Control vibration: To notify you when you receive a new email.
- Deactivate sleeping mode: To notify you when you receive a new email.

Ratings and reviews

For the most part this has been a decent mail client. Several issues plague it though... 1st is the recent update which doesn't load the body of the text at all, making this client useless for the moment... 2nd is that my password doesn't work, I didn't even have the option of a recovery password, and because of this I can't transfer my account over to my new device, meaning I will likely have to start over, and if I'm going to start over anyway I think I'll just use a different service...

Love your email services. However your phone app needs work. It freezes a lot. It keeps refreshing while typing causing typing errors. When deleting emails it doesn't respond and has to be restarted and deleted again. It doesn't update to show sent and recieved emails quickly. There is a lag. Still overall I think your email services are fantastic and the best for encrypted services. The app needs a little work.

**UPDATE 2023: 2+ years in and I'll never got back to freemail again. Tutanota is a solid product, even if they're a tad left leaning** I decided to begin the migration away from big tech systems that have zero regard for privacy. I think Tutanota is the right product for me. As stated in other reviews, the app is slim on some bells and whistles, but at it's core it's a solid application that provides great security and service. I have had zero issues with the service itself.
