A study app for the Japan Class 1 Boiler Engineer license examination (一級ボイラー技士免許試験). This national qualification ranks above Class 2 and is required for chief boiler operators at workplaces with larger heating surface areas. All 400 practice questions come with a clear explanation.
■ Subjects Covered (400 questions, 100 per subject)
• Boiler structure (100) — heat and steam, structure of large water-tube boilers, fittings and auxiliary equipment, automatic control
• Boiler operation (100) — ignition and operation, water management and treatment, maintenance and idle preservation, handling of fittings, response to abnormalities
• Fuel and combustion (100) — properties and analysis of fuels, combustion calculations, combustion methods and burners, draft and air pollution control
• Laws and regulations (100) — Industrial Safety and Health Act, Ordinance on Safety of Boilers and Pressure Vessels, Boiler Structure Standards
The official exam has four subjects of 10 questions each (100 points per question set), for 40 questions and 400 points in a single four-hour session with no break. To pass you need at least 40% in every subject (4 or more correct per subject) and at least 60% overall (24 or more correct) — falling below the threshold in even one subject means failure. This app uses the same five-option single-answer format as the exam and includes 400 questions, ten times the 40 on the real exam, distributed evenly across the four subjects.
Class 1 shares subject names with Class 2 but goes deeper. The questions cover Class 1 level topics such as large water-tube boiler construction, heat and combustion calculations, automatic control, water management and treatment, and the finer points of the regulations, and do not overlap with Class 2 material.
