About this app

Point your phone at anything that moves. Clocked locks on and estimates its speed, live.

A car on your street, a bike on the path, a runner in the park, the dog on the beach. Hold your phone side-on and Clocked boxes what is moving, locks on to the one nearest the middle and shows its speed right beside it on the camera, with a ± that tightens as it watches. Tap another box to switch. Nothing to press mid-pass, so you can keep your eyes on the action.

POINT, LOCK, READ
• Point: hold the phone side-on to the road, the path or the park. The camera fills the screen.
• Lock: Clocked boxes what is moving and follows the one nearest the middle by itself. Fancy a different target? Tap its box.
• Read: the speed sits beside the box and firms up as the pass goes on, then hangs around for a few seconds after it leaves, so nobody has to shout "what did it say?"

THREE WAYS TO CLOCK IT, ALL FREE
• Auto: tell Clocked how high your phone's camera is above the road and it works out the distance itself, from where things meet the ground. Point and go.
• Known distance: tell Clocked how far away the path is and the ± tightens, most of all further out.
• Stopwatch: tap as something passes two marks a known distance apart. No camera needed. Works on the kids too.
Also free: km/h or mph, landscape or portrait, full screen or a framed view, a low-power mode that keeps the phone cooler through a long afternoon at the park, and your pick of two app icons, lime or dark.

HONEST NUMBERS
Every reading is an estimate, and the ± beside it shows how sure Clocked is right now. It is tighter when the phone is braced, when the target crosses the frame side-on and is not too far off (10 to 30 m works well), and once the lens height or the distance is set. In Auto, two-mark calibration (Pro) tightens it further. When the phone wobbles or tilts, or the target heads straight at you, Clocked says so and the ± grows. It would rather tell you it is unsure than make something up.
Clocked is for curiosity, sport, informal street surveys and settling arguments about whose dog runs faster. Its readings are estimates, not certified measurements, so they are not for anything official. Bragging rights only.

CLOCKED PRO
One optional upgrade, bought once, for people who want the numbers:
• Two-mark calibration: two marks on the road measure the lens height and the phone's tilt, and the ± tightens.
• Zoom lock-on: pinch, or tap 2x or 3x, to fill the picture with a pass further down the road. The maths follows the zoom.
• Analyse: every pass you clock, with the average, median, 85th percentile, a histogram, the time of day and your sessions, and filters to slice them.
• Export to CSV: take your passes into a spreadsheet and go full statistician.
• Speed alert: a tone and a red badge when a pass goes over your limit.
• Box colours and styles: green, amber and red against your limit; corners, a box or a dot.
• Snapshot: a photo of the pass with its speed stamped on it. Proof for the group chat.
Every firm reading is logged on your phone from the first day, free or Pro, so Pro opens a history that is already there. Analyse, calibration, snapshots and zoom each offer a preview once a day, so you can try before you buy. Pay once, own it forever.

STAY SAFE
Stand somewhere safe and keep an eye on what is around you. Never step into traffic to place a mark or take a reading, and never use Clocked while driving or cycling. The dog can wait.

THE SMALL PRINT
No ads. No accounts. No subscriptions.
Clocked uses your phone's camera to estimate speed, and the camera frames are processed on your device to do that. Your settings and your pass log are kept on your phone.
We receive anonymous usage stats.
