Overall it's a great app but behind the scenes, over the last couple of weeks, someone decided to start sending push notifications for every single story. Baseball, category 1 hurricanes, usually 10+ for any larger event. Probably reinstalling because it won't let me leave my phone alone for more than fifteen minutes before I get pinged again.
Content loads much faster now with the latest update! AP has a great reputation for accuracy and objectivity. I used to read Yahoo News (most of which were AP stories anyway), but got fed up with mean/ignorant user comments. This is a wonderful app: quick access to quality news stories and photos in intuitive categories, rapid updates, etc. Fast, clean navigation between stories.
I like getting the headlines in short form, and AP delivers with the option of reading the longer, more detailed version, at my convenience. The only downside is when they notify of breaking news it doesn't show when you open the app. You have to scroll down to find it. In all fairness there may be a setting where that could be changed, but I haven't taken the time you look.
The app is good. But, I am having a problem getting local news feed settings save on the app. Also, I don't like timeline gaps the features pages. It seems the feed doesn't refreshes often enough. I normally still receive week old news after I read it. That purges the more recent stories.
I would give this app 5 stars if it opened the story from the pop-up notification instead of just taking me to the front page of the app. Many times I've searched for a while to find the article and in quite a few cases gave up because I couldn't find it. It seems like a very obvious feature to include.
Functional, but sluggish. It's okay. Design is nice, could be better, smoother. Feels a little barebones, like it was put together in a few days. Content-wise, it's as good as you can get if you care about non-biased articles that don't cater towards left/right politics.
