About this app

JustRead reads text aloud. Open a document, paste some text, share a web page, or tap a button to hear what's on your screen in almost any app.

Everything happens on your phone. JustRead has no account, no ads and no tracking, and what you read is never sent anywhere.

READ ANYTHING ALOUD
- Documents: PDF, Word (DOCX), EPUB, HTML, Markdown and plain text
- Web pages: share a link or paste a URL
- Pasted, typed, shared or copied text
- Each sentence is highlighted as it's read, and the page scrolls with it
- Tap any sentence to start reading from there
- Choose any voice installed on your phone, and set the speed you like
- Keeps reading in the background, with controls on your lock screen and in the notification

SCREEN READING
Turn on JustRead's accessibility service, then tap the accessibility button or the Quick Settings tile to hear the text on your current screen. Tap again to pause. It reads only when you tap, the text stays on your phone, and nothing is saved unless you choose Save or Listen Later.
Some apps show text as a picture (scanned PDFs, for example). JustRead can't read those yet.

Save articles and documents to your Library and pick up where you left off.

EXPORT AND CONVERT
- Save text as TXT, Markdown, HTML, Word or PDF
- Convert text to an audio file (M4A or WAV) to listen anywhere
- Record from your microphone, with pause and bookmarks

The reading, screen reading, Library and the features above are free, with no time limit. JustRead Pro adds:
- Opus audio export
- High and Custom audio quality
- Your own HTML templates: create, edit, import and export
- Recording device audio, or device audio and microphone together

PERMISSIONS, EXPLAINED
- Accessibility service: only to read the text on your screen when you tap the button or tile. Off until you turn it on.
- Microphone: only while you're recording.
- Screen sharing prompt: Android shows this when you record device audio. JustRead records audio only, never the screen.
- Internet: only to open a web page you asked it to read.

What’s new

- Recording your phone's audio and your voice together now has much less echo. JustRead cancels the sound the microphone picks up from the speaker, on phones that support it.
- A tip in that mode: for the cleanest result, use headphones.
