The people who say it's too complicated clearly downloaded a game whose target demographic is not them. This game is brilliant, and this app is a brilliant recreation of it. The mechanics are complex but rewarding, and taking a few turns is the perfect way to spend a bathroom break, since it saves your progress pretty frequently so you don't need the app open throughout an entire game. Overall, great job Obsidian!
Quest mode is the best way to play the game and the devs want to get rid of it. If it happens my review will fall accordingly. Suggestions: *Making the timer be 40 minimum for the 6 hero runs. It's way too hard at 30 and while using 4 heroes it feels easiest. *Adding a deckbuilding and card storage screen for story mode. *Adding the option for experience levelling instead of completion levelling for story mode *Having rotating discounts and sales in the store, and having discounts for costumes when already owning the character.
I own the actual Rise of the Runelords base game and all of the expansions - this FREE game is incredibly faithful to the original. My only disappointment is that all of the extra cards they made for those who wish to shell out some gold were actually available in print form! The really cool thing about the game is that you can earn all of the expansions by playing the game and earning gold. I earned the character deck, adventures 1 and 2, and another character, before finally just buying the bundle (to get the special promo cards you can't get anywhere else). All around, this is just awesome. I wish they would continue this for the other games in the series!
The introductory mission was fun, it was good for demonstrating the mechanics. The menus are somewhat confusing, I think that replacing some of the symbols with text would help. For example, instead of having color coded arrows that look like they are part of the border, simply replace it with the words continue/cancel but keep the colors. I think I've encountered a bug though, I can't seem to start the first actual mission :P
This game is grindy, but fun. I am stuck on one level and can't find any help with it. I've unlocked two extra characters without spending any $ so I'd say its an A+ for FTP model. Does not use energy or action points you can play 24/7 if you want. Also the game picks up right where you left off no matter when you quit. Definitely has a learning curve but eventually its just 2nd nature. Nothing too complex.
Fantastic game! Great mix of tabletop rpg and card game elements. Not too or easy. Makes you plan character progression, party composition, and approach for the scenarios. Very engrossing! And the purchases actually buy parts of the game! They don't make you pay to play for more than a half hour with an energy system or anything like that. The in-game currency (which you don't necessarily have to buy) gets you more campaigns, different cards and character variants for more play styles, or cosmetic changes. The few bugs I've had were solved with a simple reset, and the game saved where I'd been mid-turn. Overall a really enjoyable game!
