We’re excited to introduce a new feature:

SUBMIT NAMES & Get A Real Feedback From Your Partner

With our new feature, you can add potential names to the app without your partner knowing and receive honest feedback on them. Simply enter the name, choose a gender, and add a meaning. Your partner will see the name within their next 10 swipes, and they can swipe left or right to indicate whether they like it or not.

Research shows that partners often don't give honest feedback when suggesting baby names to avoid hurting each other's feelings. Our new feature eliminates this issue, and you can now get genuine feedback from your partner on the names you like.

Utilising a similar swipe-based mechanic to Tinder, potential baby names pop up as you swipe left to discard and right to like. As well as adding these ’liked’ names into a list of appealing possibilities, if your partner also downloads the app, you can sync up your phones using a shareable link or AirDrop and set about making your own, disagreement-free lists.

The hook? When you both ’like’ the same name, you’ll get a match alert. All of these mutually agreeable names then populate a list all of their own and you can narrow things down together, free from the worry of suggesting a name that will get you that look. You know the one.

With more than 30,000 names to pick from, you can filter suggestions based on sex, or keep things together if your new arrival will be a surprise. You can even expand your options with collections inspired by celebrity, athlete, and even hipster-based names (yes, really).

What’s more, if ridding your home life of any added stress and unwanted arguments wasn’t enough, Babyname also gives context to your choices, revealing the origins and meanings behind the names. For instance, did you know that Sara means a noble lady or a princess? Or that Lorelei is an alluring enchantress? How about that Cecilia means blind, grey eyes, and Maria is a sea of bitterness? No? Well, now you do."

Ratings and reviews

Very few names. Paid for the highest subscription which is supposed to contain thousands of names. The app told me I was out of names in a couple of minutes. Many of the names I swiped through were duplicates. I do not recall seeing more than one or two new names after paying for the subscription.

Got the app about 7 years ago with our first, now they took away the benefits I paid for in a one time payment. I paid for ad free, undo swipe and unlock all names. Not sure about the names as it seems like there's less but the ads and undoing swipes are only attainable with a subscription. On top of this in one of the updates since I used it last, the broke the app and now it glitches really bad... also they have suggested henry 40 times already and I just tried like 5 different filters...

Repeats a lot of names, filters often don't work or say they ran out of names in less than 50 swipes. Option to add your own name to send to partner only works if that name isn't in the system already, and doesn't let you choose to send THAT name to your partner. Often gets stuck on the "Wow looks like you've swiped through all the names" page even after closing out the app and going back in, or changing the filter. Overall, stick with the free features. Paid ones are not worth it.
