A living map of Taiwan's railways
Every point of light
is a train out on the line right now
TRA, High Speed Rail, Alishan Forest Railway, and metro and light rail in five cities, all on one map, all on today's timetable.
Tap a train and the map follows it. Tap a station for the next departures, with carriage crowding on Taipei Metro.
Positions come from the official arrival times, so trains drift between stations. The times are official, and accurate.
Arrival alerts, departure widgets, travel passport.
Traditional Chinese, English and Japanese.
I build Rail Island on my own, and everything above is free, with no account and no payment.
There is also Rail Island Pass, monthly or yearly, which adds:
· Delay history for TRA trains, day by day, going back 90 days
· Metro widgets showing several stations at once, or "Automatic (nearest station)" that follows you as you move
· Cloud sync for your favorites and ride records across devices
· Share trip, so a friend can see which train you are on
· Import your saved lists from Google Maps as Rail Island favorites
· High-resolution satellite imagery when you are not following a train
· Next stop and trip progress on the Lock Screen while following a train (Android 16, Now Bar on Samsung)
· The Founding Islander badge in your travel passport
The subscription renews through Google Play and can be cancelled at any time in your Google Play subscription settings. The Pass opens up features inside the app. It is not a travel ticket.
Train data comes from TDX, the open transport data platform run by Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and from each operator's own public live feeds.
