Celebrating noteworthy Hispanic-made games

Latin American creativity and passion can be found everywhere, be it Argentina or Canada. Here are the stories of Latin developers challenging the status-quo and changing the face of the games.

Kyu Valencia, Mexico

As Hyperbeard’s chief creative officer, Valencia is inspired by childhood memories of old-school toys and how they’d look in a modern setting. For her, being Hispanic means being surrounded by family – even if you’re not related.
These principles allow Hyperbeard to create with confidence and playfulness. It’s this focus on a realistic goal, along with having short-term and easy-to-achieve aims, that Valencia advises aspiring Hispanic developers to get right.

Gerson da Silva, Uruguay

Silva’s gaming journey started with a Commodore 64, and now he’s one of the talents behind Ironhide Games.
As a Hispanic developer, the studio’s history has been filled with self-taught moments, innovation, resilience, and moving forward with effort and determination. Due to the limited resources available to them in Uruguay, they faced many challenges, but Silva’s is clear that other Hispanic developers shouldn’t feel discouraged.
Instead, these limitations should be used as opportunities for innovation – allowing you to accept your mistakes, and build titles in short cycles.

Ricardo Ocaña, Argentina

As head of product at Etermax, Ocaña along with the rest of the team want to show the world what Hispanic developers can do. In turn, they also want to encourage aspiring Hispanic devs to follow their dreams and add their vision and creativity to an amazing community of creatives.

Carlos Villena, Peru

Boomware’s Cafe Panic embodies the customs and dishes of nations around the world thanks to Villena’s love for Latin American cuisine.
The drive to create an authentic gastronomic experience helped it and the team grow to new heights. Now this passion has turned into innovation to lead his Latin American team to compete in a truly global industry.

TinyBytes, Chile

Andrés, Daniel, José, Patricio, Hilario, and Jordan are just some of the names behind the Chilean studio TinyBytes. For them, game development is a beautiful and fulfilling space that requires a lot of hard work and a bit of interdisciplinary alchemy to create meaningful experiences that translate into entertainment.
Their message to any aspiring developers is to never give up and strive for more. Try new things, experiment, and learn from failures – in the end you will succeed.
