Dr. Raisa Ilyushkin, a Ukrainian biophysicist educated in Moscow, invents the SANG (Serial Artificial Intelligence Nanobot Generator). This apparatus creates xenoborgs, continent-sized organisms that incorporate nanobots, artificial intelligence, and robotics.

Stepan Pavlovich, boss of the Apparat, an international crime syndicate, obtains a copy of the SANG and uses it for mass murder and reducing the world population to those loyal to him.

Raisa must stop him before he destroys civilization, or the xenoborgs end life on Earth. Meanwhile, the xenoborgs develop personalities and a social order. Raisa tackles many issues of advanced technology in coordination with the United Nations Commission on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
