Gaele Hi
AudioBook Review: Stars: Overall 4 Narration 5 Story 4 So, it’s St. Patrick’s Day and it will soon be time for Nick to experience his first change after being infected by a werewolf in the last book. But, Beechwood Harbor is ALL IN for the holiday, with someone leaving Shamrock shaped clues to a scavenger hunt, gnomes going missing (yep- the garden type) and little green men being spotted all over town – things are strangely falling into place for this strange little town. And then, a body turns up just behind the manor, and police and townspeople believing it’s a hunting mishap, things are heating up and Holly is the only thing (well – with her friends) keeping the paranormal at bay. And while I adore Holly and find her bumbling to be funny – she was SO obtuse in this one, with clues fairly dancing with big neon signs to point the way, clues she missed. Often. Of course, we know that Nick’s first change is going to go horribly wrong, and what’s with the gnomes suddenly disappearing only to reappear elsewhere? Or the leprechaun – surely those aren’t real? Well, this is a paranormal cozy so things can get more than a bit twisty and strange – all through the misdirection, missed clues and connections that are made on the way to a solution. When you add in something disrupting the relationship between Holly and Adam, and some changes that I surely didn’t see coming – there’s more to both the story and Holly then ever before expected. Want something fresh and different? This is the series…. And don’t just read it. Immerse yourself in the audio. Narration is provided by Amanda Ronconi and she is the perfect narrator for these quirky cozies: her voices are always on point, consistent throughout the series and easy to understand, with a touch of the ‘woo woo’ necessary for the magical folk. From first to last, her character portrayals are spot on and give a sense of ‘knowing’ who is there in the story that combines her voice, tone, accents, delivery and a special sort of nuanced emotional component that allows the listener to feel what is happening as they listen and follow along. A favorite narrator for the quirky paranormal series – mystery or not, she’s certainly on my ‘grab always’ list when she is the narrator. I received an AudioBook copy of the title from Tantor Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
