About this audiobook

In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself...

"Terrifying...Eloquent...A heart-rending drama wandering of human yearning."--The New York Times

"A narrative of arresting force. Anyone who ever fancied wandering off to face nature on its own harsh terms should give a look. It's gripping stuff."--The Washington Post

The story flows well except when Jon starts describing his mountain experiences in length, out of context, and he only explains the reason at the very end of the sections, where many people would have already skipped the chapter altogether as I did at first. His writing is excellenet except these chapters, which seem mainly serve himself, forgetting the readers. The book does not tell any survival skills nor wisdoms on the nature. If Chris had survived, his story would have been certainly forgotten. Chris was reckless and met his fate before he could correct himself.

Read this book in school for my survival/ nature class and then the class watched the movie. Even though reading the story and watching the movie and doing personal research on the subject itself I still thoroughly enjoy re-reading this book.
