About this audiobook

Fascinating “What If?” stories from Hugo and Nebula award-winning masters of altnerate history!

What would the world be like if Teddy Roosevelt had fought in World War I? If the space race started during World War II? If Joseph McCarthy had been elected President? These and other questions are answered in this collection of alternate histories. As these stories suggest, the world as we know it might have turned out different than it is today, if only one minor—or major—change had occurred in history. Included in this collection are:

“A Massachusetts Yankee in King Arthur's Court” by Harry Turtledove
“ Ike at the Mike” by Howard Waldrop
“Looking for the Fountain” by Robert Silverberg
“The Return of William Proxmire” by Larry Niven
“The Arrival of Truth” by Kristine Kathryn Rusch
“Goddard's People” by Allen Steele
“ Over There” by Mike Resnick
“Bloodstained Ground” by Brian Thomsen
“We Could Do Worse” by Gregory Benford

About the author

Larry Niven received his B.A. in mathematics in 1962. His first novel, World of Ptavvs (1966), was a success and launched his career. Niven has won five Hugos and one Nebula award, testimony that his colleagues in the science fiction world respect his work. Perhaps Niven's most well-known creation is Ringworld, a distant planet that may be taken as a metaphor for Earth, as it was once great but has since fallen into decay. Harry Turtledove was born in Los Angeles, California on June 14, 1949. He received a Ph.D. in Byzantine history from UCLA in 1977. From the late 1970's to the early 1980's, he worked as a technical writer for the Los Angeles County Office of Education. He left in 1991 to become full-time writer. His first two novels, Wereblood and Werenight, were published in 1979 under the pseudonym Eric G. Iverson because his editor did not think people would believe that Turtledove was his real name. He used this name until 1985 when he published Herbig-Haro and And So to Bed under his real name. He has received numerous awards including the Homer Award for Short Story for Designated Hitter in 1990, the John Esthen Cook Award for Southern Fiction for Guns of the Southand in 1993, and the Hugo Award for Novella for Down in the Bottomlands in 1994.
