Matthew Kressel
Noy my favorite KSR book. I've very much enjoyed KSR's other books, like 2312, New York 2140, and Red Moon. But Red Mars just didn't work for me. The science of terraforming was fascinating, but with the exception of the initial transit of the first hundred settlers to Mars, there were very few characters I could connect with, and because we are in a limited third-person point of view throughout most of the book, I never got a strong sense of any of the main characters' motivations or feelings.
