“Hey, it’s Conner. I know you read about my exploits in My Girlfriend the Vampire. You know how I hooked up with a woman who was way out of my league. I thought she was flawless, but, as it turns out, she did, in fact, have a downside. And it was a doozy. Well, here we are again, and, yes, Lyria and I are still a couple, working our way through our differences. I’ve learned that you have to be tolerant of others in this world, even if your significant other reshapes your very perception of reality. Hey, nobody said love was perfect, right?
“A short time ago, the biggest worry in my life was whether hanging around with Boof Parsons was going to lead to termination from my job as a financial analyst. Or sex addiction. Or both. But, with Lyria as my significant other, such concerns seem rather pedestrian. Now, a member of my family is seriously ill, and I’m holding out hope that my girlfriend will somehow come to the rescue. She is, after all, the only one of her kind left. Or…is she? If you thought things got nuts in MGTV, wait until you read about our latest exploits in Lyria. Thanks. Talk soon.”
Hey, it’s Robert.
I hope you enjoyed reading Lyria, a follow up to My Girlfriend the Vampire. Interesting that as a novelist, one would think you have a very defined path on which to tell your story. But I often find that my characters are “telling” me where I should take them, and indeed even how the tale should end. I have a feeling those same personalities will be insisting that this storyline should continue.
Since ‘My Girlfriend’ was published, probably the question I’ve been asked most often is something along the lines of, “How did someone with your background come to tell stories about vampires?” Most inquisitors are aware that I spend over 30 years in corporate America, the last fifteen or so as VP of Finance for a Fortune 500 company.
Very good question and I’d be lying if I said I never wondered that myself. Fact is, I always had the writing bug but never had time for it to come to fruition while working in the hectic big business environment. But I’ve also always had a keen interest in vampires lurking in the back of my brain. And when I retired, I was finally able to devote enough time to bring the two interests together.
Corporate finance and vampires – ah, a match made in heaven.
After spending almost eight years on the shoreline of New Hampshire, my wife Donna and I have relocated from whence we came – Texas. Our two adult children are getting along just fine, and one of our two grandkids just hit double digits. Boy, does time go by fast!
Thanks for reading and, if my characters have anything to say about it, we’ll speak to you later!
