About this audiobook

"Narrator Jennifer Hale's outstanding performance brings this story of alien invasion to life...Hale's range of differentiation is masterly as she animates all the quirky characters Kira meets. From the rough, snarky slang of ex-military woman to the half-mad musings of a human "ship mind," every unique voice enhances the listening experience." -- AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award winner

Kira Navárez dreamed of life on new worlds.

Now she's awakened a nightmare.

During a routine survey mission on an uncolonized planet, Kira finds an alien relic. At first she's delighted, but elation turns to terror when the ancient dust around her begins to move.

As war erupts among the stars, Kira is launched into a galaxy-spanning odyssey of discovery and transformation. First contact isn't at all what she imagined, and events push her to the very limits of what it means to be human.

While Kira faces her own horrors, Earth and its colonies stand upon the brink of annihilation. Now, Kira might be humanity's greatest and final hope . . .

It's a little early for me to give 5 stars, but I am already impressed. I love Christopher Paolini for the Eragon series and I just finished the Murtagh stand-alone book after re-listening to the Inheritance cycle (read hard covers previously.) The writing in this book already really stands out as an entirely different style and I love it. I am a fan of both sci-fi and fantasy genres and so far, the story here is riveting. The book is very long and that provides a fantastic dollar value for entertainment while I drive a semi truck. I really enjoyed the narration for the Eragon series, but this narrator seems even better so far, definitely for the character. My one and only complaint so far is that occasionally when the narrator is being expressive I would like the post production to lower the master volume a bit so that I don't go deaf, but we get to maintain the sense of expression given by the narration. But, that won't drop a star. Thank you, Mr. Paolini for another work of art.

its well written and rich with lore which makes it all the more disappointing that i dont like it. why? ill tell you. ITS BORING!!! JESUS CHRIST IS THIS BOOK BORING! SO MUCH LORE, SO MUCH WORLD BUILDING AND THIS IS WHAT HE DOES WITH IT!! nothing really happens and when it does it is so god damn underwelming. its like eldest, but worse because at least i cared about the characters in eldest. the main character in this book? not so much.

One of the best sci fi books I've ever experienced, and Jennifer Hale is a GOAT narrator, can't recommend enough. Such an emotional story with mystery and constant battles of self, 11/10
