للناس فى فهم التصوف مسالك ودروبٌ تصل بتنوعها إلى درجة التناقض. فمن الناس من يرى في التصوف منتهى التدين وغاية الطريق العارج من الإنسان إلى الله، وفي المقابل يراه آخرون باباً من أبواب الهرطقة والإلحاد .. وبين أولئك وهؤلاء مواقف عديدة من هذا الاتجاه الروحي الذي اصطُلح على تسميته بالتصوف..لذا جاء هذا الكتاب كما لو كان ظاهر غايته بسيط، وهو التعريف بالتصوف والصوفية. في حين أنها فى حقيقة الأمر غايةٌ صعبة المنال، إذ يصعب أن تحيط اللغة بجوهر هذا الطريق الروحي المتفرد، المحلِّق بالتجربة الدينية في سماوات الحضرة الإلهية التي تعلو على أحكام الحس والمنطق.

يشرح الطرق الصوفية وكنت أظنه رواية وقد تبين أنه كتاب أكاديمي قائم على أسس البحث العلمي يهتم بتفصيل الطرق الصوفية ابتداءً من مؤسسها الى ما هي عليه اليوم.. في الحقيقة جميل في الطرح وألفاظه مرتبة..
