《東協新興五國IT發展趨勢與商機特輯─通訊產業商機》研究東協新興五國之通訊技術應用、用戶型態、通訊產品滲透、電信業獲利能力。 經本研究探討，雖然五國發展區域相近，但各國發展的方式，及其受外在環境的影響差異都不小。由於通訊產業的發展相當著重基礎建設，且這些基礎建設一般而言都是國家規模的尺度，因此發展程度不僅與國家經濟及業者財力息息相關，也與該國政策是否有利於產業發展脫不了關係。以經濟面而言，較貧困的國家，其消費者之消費能力經常受限，因此能夠付出的電信費用與採納新技術的意願都可能較低，加上政府財政捉襟見肘，則電信業的發展環境相對不良；以政策面而言，部分國家的電信市場開放而自由，策略投資者多，部分國家則相對封閉，能夠創造的利潤也有顯著差距，對於投資者，特別是海外資金，吸引力顯然不足。 發展機會方面，電信業受限於低支出，本身較難獲益，部分國家如越南則是受制於政府，外資難進入當地市場。電信業之外，週邊商品的發展是台灣中小業者前進東南亞較有機會的領域，如行動應用、遊戲等方面皆可布局。
