本書由第一屆全球華人生命文學創作獎得主依品凡小姐用愛寫真完成；記錄著一位農村青年如何蛻變成翱翔天際的扞衛戰士，及其充滿真、善、美的生命故事。林隆獻將軍，台灣屏東人，生於民國２５年１０月２８日，４４年畢業於台灣省屏東師範學校，本欲作育英才，從事教育工作，因目睹中共偷襲我海軍巡弋艦隊，基於義憤及愛國情操，乃毅然捨教從軍，投入空軍行列，畢業於空軍官校四十期；歷任分隊長輔導長中隊長作戰科長大隊長聯隊長署長副校長副參謀長等職，並曾擔任我國空軍名聞中外之〔雷虎特技小組〕領隊。民國七十九年八月廿一日上午七時五十八分，時任空軍總部少將副參謀長的林隆獻將軍，親率寧建中少將等十七名有關人員，冒著楊希颱風剛過的大雨亂流，執行建安四號（防空疏散工程）視察任務，途經雲林縣東勢鄉海程村時，彼等所乘坐的編號一九○五的Beach一九○○型運輸機失事墜毀，機上十八人全部罹難殉職，今僅建立了「十八將軍殉職紀念碑」。將軍為人誠樸，作風開朗，沉毅有大略，生前戰功彪炳，獲頒戰績勳章多座，功在國家。而將軍留給周遭許多人不捨的回憶，卻是其對親人、朋友、部屬的盡心盡力，他珍惜生命中每一份情緣，對人生旅途中相識相逢的人真心關懷。
