「活道」創世記課程首次於2006 年4 月出版。經過十多年後，我們根據使用者的教學經驗和回饋，對這冊課程作了較大程度的修訂。由於創世記的內容相當豐富，本冊課程的十二個課次只能涵蓋這卷書的內容梗概，以及幫助學員掌握全書的脈絡和主題信息。
希伯來文聖經把創世記、出埃及記、利未記、民數記和申命記五卷書合稱「妥拉」，「妥拉」這個字詞傳統上譯為「律法」，但它的含意遠比「律法」廣闊，更貼切的譯法是「訓誨」或「教誨」。創世記是「妥拉」的第一卷，雖然它的體裁大部分屬敘述文體，但其中卻充滿了關乎神的屬性、人類和以色列歷史的訓誨。
本冊課程把十二課分成兩個部分，第一至三課處理創世記的頭十一章，之後有一個小結，第四至十二課處理第十一章末段至五十章的內容，其後另有一個小結。
