作者以懷舊的筆調在收藏老時光的相簿裡批閱註記，描述戰爭的恐怖、日本軍閥的殘暴、中國人的迷信、男女愛情的恩怨、人性的善惡、富人的奢華、窮人的悲哀、離鄉背井的痛苦。在這些可歌可泣的故事裡，紮實反映出大時代的變遷，將當時的社會縮影及老百姓的心聲表露無遺，情感細膩，真摯動人，值得細細品味。
