有鑑於軌道運輸系統具有高效率、低污染以及對環境衝擊較小的特性，地狹人稠的臺灣地區確實有發展軌道運輸系統的必要性。雖然軌道運輸系統具備高度的外部社會效益，但因其投資金額十分龐大，不論在規劃、設計或營運階段，均需能掌握系統的供需能量，才能在最經濟的條件下提供符合預期服務品質的運能。本研究係根據臺鐵容量分析模式開發一圖形化分析軟體，同時以現有臺鐵捷運化改善計畫為例，進行路線容量的實例演算分析。其成果除作為軌道容量系列研究之傳統暨區域鐵路系統部分之重要依據外，亦是下年度進行容量分析軟體推廣教育訓練、容量手冊編訂的參考。
