구약 성경의 두 번째 부분인, 여호수아부터 에스더까지 열두 권을 흔히 ‘역사서’라고 합니다. 역사서는 이스라엘의 가나안 정복의 과정부터 이스라엘 왕정의 기원과 그 초기에 관한 역사 그리고 왕국 분열과 남·북왕국 멸망에 이르는 시대에 관한 역사를 다룹니다.
