About the author

Michaelene Jansen PhD, RN,C, GNP-BC, NP-C is a Clinical Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also works as a Family and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner in Pulmonary Medicine at UW Health in Madison, Wisconsin. Her professional career includes advanced practice nursing in primary care and neurosciences, chronic pain and pulmonary medicine, particularly the care of adult cystic fibrosis patients. Her professional nursing career includes critical care, neurosciences and trauma. She was co-editor of the previous three editions of this text and editor of Managing Pain in the Older Adult also published by Springer Publishing.

Mary Zwygart-Stauffacher, PhD, RN, GNP/GCNS-BC, FAAN is Interim Dean and Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. She also practices as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner/Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Red Cedar Clinic/Mayo Health System - Nursing Homes Services. She is a NIH funded co-principal investigator examining multilevel interventions to promote quality improvement in the nursing home setting. She has extensive experience in gerontological advanced practice, nursing education and quality improvement in long-term care. She is the co-editor of the previous edition of this text, in addition to the author of numerous national presentations, publications and books.
