Born in South Africa, Peter Temple settled in Australia in 1980 and worked as a journalist and teacher of journalism and editing before becoming a full-time novelist.
Temple has written nine novels and has won the Ned Kelly Award for crime fiction five times. Bad Debts, Black Tide, Dead Point and White Dog feature Jack Irish. An Iron Rose, In the Evil Day and Shooting Star are stand-alone thrillers.
In 2007, his novel The Broken Shore won the UK Crime Writers’ Association’s Gold Dagger, making him the first Australian to win the world’s most prestigious crime-writing prize. The Broken Shore was also named by the Guardian as one of the ten best crime novels of the decade.
In 2012 the ABC will screen telemovies of Bad Debts and Black Tide with actor Guy Pearce playing Jack Irish.
Peter Temple’s novels have been published in more than twenty countries.
