About this eBook

From the bestselling author of Disconnected Kids, a clear and compassionate explanation of the causes of the autism epidemic—and a scientifically based approach for prevention and treatment.

As he travels the country helping parents and children cope with neurological disorders, Dr. Robert Melillo is always asked one question: Why? Why are autism rates exploding? But an equally important question always follows: What can we do about it as a society—and what can I do to help my child?

In this candid, research-based, practical book, Dr. Melillo presents the latest scientific explanation for how we got here and proven, drug-free strategies that parents can employ to help prevent, detect, and address the autism epidemic for themselves and their families.

With honesty and compassion, Dr. Melillo explains what the latest scientific research tells us about the role of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, dispelling myths and replacing them with the facts. In addition, he presents early warning signs, a prevention plan for parents-to-be, and an intervention program for babies and young children.

As an autistic parent of autistic children, who is the daughter of autistic parents - this is disgusting, hugely ableist and actively harming the autistic community. There are so many assumptions based on false premises. Living in a neurotypical world with people who view us as disordered is how autistic people are so disabled. I could go on but I won't. I highly encourage anyone who is seeking answers and support for their child or children in their care to steer very clear of this book and seek out the enormous amount of resources that are ND-affirming and educators/communities that are autistic. Don't try to make a Zebra look and act like a horse. Embrace the fact they're a zebra and raise them to be proud of their stripes. And find their fellow zebras so they can simply be one zebra among many and know they're wonderful just the way they are.

As a champion of Dr. Melillo, he is THE authority on autism. My child completed his therapy at his Atlanta Brain Balance center with miraculous results. We have 3 of his other publications and will continue to follow his research and treatments. A must read for everyone with a child on the spectrum.
